Default Making a dns server from old pc?

I know how to set up a HTTP server on an old PC . Is it possible to register your own domains on a DNS server made from an old PC. is it even possible to make a home made (so to speak) DNS server. I know I would only be saving about 1.99 a year but its not about the money its about the doing.

Setting up your own DNS server really isn't worthwhile. I recommend just paying the 1.99/year.

it would go like this: DNS request >> check database first and if not there then..>> ISP DNS >> IP gets sent back to you to run the http request>> store this ip in database >> query database first to see if domain name/ip is there, if not go to ISP DNS etc etc
