Default Get rid of the lame "Lame Server Error"

"Almost Live" was a Seattle based sketch comedy show. Think Saturday Night Live, based on the greater Seattle area. On that show they had a sketch called "The Lame List". This would feature local rock musicians (including members of Soundgarden on occasion) yelling "LAME!" to various things mentioned by the announcer (the gas station loses the bathroom key). The announcer would then mention something overly complex (socio-economic ramifications of the break-up of the Soviet Union), to which the reaction was befuddled stares. Then, another simple one (beer tax).

How does that relate to server maintenance? It doesn't really, just a touch of nostalgia (Dear King-5, please release Almost Live on dvd!)

In /var/log/messages you might see "Lame Server Error" or "lame server resolving" and wonder what you can do about them. If you do a quick google search, you will see that they are quite common, but are really anything that effects you.

It is generally easiest to simply ignore these messages. The best way to do that, is to not see them at all. To that end, you can edit /etc/named.conf and insert the lines

logging {
category lame-servers { null; };
};

into the file. Simply restart the named (/etc/init.d/named restart) and you should no longer receive those errors.
