    Default IP's and Class-C's

We often receive questions regarding multiple class-c IP addresses and if we can provide them. The short answer is yes, but there are a few caveats that need explained before you run off and sign up for service.

First, let’s take a look at what an IP really is:

“An IP address can be thought of as the equivalent of a street address or a phone number for a computer or other network device on the Internet. Just as each street address and phone number uniquely identifies a building or telephone, an IP address can uniquely identify a specific computer or other network device on a network. An IP address differs from other contact information, however, because the linkage of a user's IP address to his/her name is not publicly available information.”

Many folks that have VPS or Dedicated servers will request as many unique IP’s as possible to aid with Search Engine Optimization, or “SEO”. Here is Wikipedia’s definition:

“Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it "ranks", the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search and industry-specific vertical search engines.”

Now, back to the original topic; class-c IP’s:
Spry and VPSLink do carry several unique class-c ranges. These IP’s are owned by us and are not blacklisted.
Due to the fact that IP ranges are very expensive, we do not offer any full ranges for sale. VPS and Dedicated plans offer between 2 and 10 IP’s, depending on the level of the plan. You can add additional IP’s as needed by requesting them from support. Additional IP’s range in price, depending on what service you have (Spry or VPSLink) and how many you need.

Our VPS provisioning process will automatically assign as many unique IP’s as possible to a new server. There is no need to request this service.
One note here: We can only assign as many unique IP’s as we have available ranges. This means, for example, if you order a server with 10 IP’s and we only have 5 ranges available, you will get 2 IP’s from each range as a general rule.
Additional IP’s for Dedicated servers MUST be ordered in groups of 5. In addition, IP's on a dedicated server are assigned as contiguous allocations. This means all IP's will be from the same class-c range and will be in order. If you need multiple ranges, you will have to request it at the time that you place your order. Again, this is only for dedicated plans.

Just as a side note, multiple IP’s are not available with shared hosting plans, only VPS and Dedicated.
